WordPress 3.0 has been officially released. There’s quite a bit that has been changed, improved, and added, so watch the video and read through the release notes to find out what’s new. I upgraded several blogs yesterday via the automated updater in a matter of seconds with no problems, but there are a few known issues, so check this thread before upgrading.

Favored Freeware: Fraise

Fraise is a free text editor which is both easy to use and powerful. It is designed to neither confuse newcomers nor disappoint advanced users. It should work perfectly for a whole variety of needs – like web programming, script editing, making a to do list, and so on.

Pros: Fraise is a direct fork from a previous Favored Freeware title, the now-discontinued Smultron. It is lighter and faster than most other text editors, open source, offers customizable syntax coloring, and can be used to open hidden files.

Cons: None significant.

I would like to say a brief “thank you” to those of you who have been following these monthly favored freeware update posts. Many things have changed on this blog in the last year, and not all of them were for the best. I will be no longer be posting the monthly favored freeware updates, in hopes that I can find the desire to fill this blog with more relevant and less repetitive content.

Many applications and widgets now come with their own automatic update systems, and you can keep track of the rest with two of my favorite free widgets, App Update and Widget Update.
